Developing Personal Political Power:
Positive Organizational Politics
Studies show that the majority of us prefer to avoid and dismiss office politics. But, although we may like to think that an organization free from politics would be a better place, that place isn’t generally where we live.
We live in a world of scarcity and politics affects the way scarce resources are divided. Those resources can be budget dollars, face time with the boss, even headcount in a time of cutbacks.
Politics is the art of exchanging favors. It is all about who you know, what you know, and what you owe and are owed. When done well it is the lubricant that makes good things happen. When done badly it compromises personal and professional ethics, destroys trust, and demeans our profession. Jim will bring clarity to why politics is important, the value of doing it well and how you can put positive politics to use today.
Attendees will leave with deeper understanding of:
· The attributes of politics done well and done poorly
· The necessity to engage in politics
· The importance of building political support
· A self-rating of their Political Power and a road map to building power.
